Life at Sunheal

What your mother's Tuesday actually looks like.

Not the brochure version. Meals she recognises, exercises she grumbles about, an afternoon rest, and someone to talk to at tea time.

Food that tastes like home

Four meals a day. Breakfast and tea are prepared in-house; lunch and dinner are catered daily from our central kitchen.

We cater for low-salt, soft or minced, blended, and vegetarian diets.

Something to look forward to

Boredom is its own kind of harm. A person who sits in a chair facing a television for eleven hours declines faster than one who has something to do at eleven o'clock.

So there is always something on in the afternoon: tai chi, carrom, board games, cards, singing, mahjong or colouring.

What residents enjoy

Our activities

What residents do together at the afternoon activity hour — all of it indoors, in our common area.

Movement, every single day

Every morning at 10am there is light exercise — gentle movement to start the day.

Residents who need physiotherapy have sessions on site with our physiotherapist, arranged around their recovery. We recommend three sessions a week, and physiotherapy is charged separately.

Somebody to talk to

The hardest part of growing old is often not the body. It is the silence — children busy, friends gone, days with nobody to tell anything to.

Our staff speak English, Malay and Mandarin, so most residents can talk in the language they dream in.

We sit with people. We learn the names of their grandchildren.

Morning to night

The shape of the day

Predictability is not dullness. For an older person — especially one with dementia — a day that follows the same shape is what keeps anxiety down.
